New Illustration: Disappointed Pitcher

Here’s a recent illustration I did just for fun. Lately I’ve been playing around with scanning in my traditionally inked drawings and then using Adobe Illustrator to color them. After that I play around with different texture effects in Photoshop. Fun all around!

Long before your Kindles or iPads books were printed on real paper and bound together. I know, sounds like a waste of paper, but it’s true! Here is an image of a girl from such time reading one of these old-fashioned books. She looks real focused, doesn’t she? This week’s Illustration Friday theme is “focused” so here’s my submission. It’s the Big Pumpkin

Thought I’d show off my latest illustration in my line of illustrations featuring oversized things (my last post featured a girl wearing really big shoes). Halloween is just around the corner. Get those boots shined. The biggest pumpkins always go quick. I thought about putting a large carving knife in the little guy’s back pocket, but decided against it. This is my first official post of my newly released WordPress blog! Just want to say welcome everyone. I guess I’ll post a new Illustrator sketch illustration. Lately I’ve been paying close attention to cartoonist/illustrator Bob Ostrom’s blog, How 2 Draw. He’s been playing around with scanning in inked lines, then coloring them in Adobe Illustrator, giving them a very hand-done look (see Bob’s blog post here). Whoa!! — Real inking on real paper?! There’s a concept. I did a little experiment myself, and here it is. Thought I’d share. I like where this look is going. Maybe I’ll continue with it. I’ll also be posting this on iStockPhoto. UPDATE: To purchase the rights to use this stock illustration click here. UPDATE #2: I forgot to mention that this blog was created using a tutorial from the Web Designer Wall.

Muddy football

Looks like I skipped Spring and Summer, and went straight to Fall. Not sure why. I found the sketch in my sketchbook from last fall and decided to vector it up.

The mud was really fun to do. Almost as fun as playing in it.

Teacher’s pet

Lately I’ve been working on doing quick vectors and building my stock illustration library. So far I have 7 pieces available. Here is one I uploaded today, and will hopefully be available next monday or tuesday (takes about a week to be approved, especially for us newbies).

I like doing these illustrations because it’s really expanding my vector illustration skills, as well as helping me to define my style. I’ll be publishing more of these in the coming weeks.

Vectored this guy up over the weekend. I was really focusing on getting a rugged hand-drawn look.

Edit: I’m submitting this illustration to this week’s Illustration Friday topic “Fleeting”. I think it’s safe to say this gentleman can’t face the fact that his precious hair is “fleeting”.
